BTW, some of these statistics are difficult to wrap my brain around.

I got lost in some of the numbers too. Most of the time I just try to get a little perspective by getting the main idea of the stats I am being shown. Plus, I do not put too much stock in stats because they can be manipulated to say very different things.
I try to put faces with numbers. I try to think about people I know or have seen, people who live in dirt floor huts or live off of one meal a day, that makes things more real to me.
